Life's a Beach

I've been kind of a slacker when it comes to blogging, so here is a whole bunch all jumbled together.

Last Wednesday Justin and I went to the beach with our friends Glen and Breanna Gray, and Thomas Waite. We went to Newport Beach, and although it wasn't sunny I still managed to get sunburnt.

After running around playing frisbee we decided to take a dip in the ocean. I didn't go all the way in but everyone else had a pretty good time catching some waves.

Friday we went to Best Buy in Fullerton to eat at the Truck Squad that meets there. The trucks meet there every friday from 5:30-9:30.
Buttermilk Truck: French toast sticks, red velvet choc chip pancakes
Crepes Bonaparte: featured on the Food Network! crepes savory and sweet.
Short Stop BBQ: pulled pork, tri-tip and bbq turkey sandwiches
Dos Chinos: Latin Asian fusion
Chunk n' Chip: Oven warm cookies sandwiched with ice cream
The Bakery Truck: cupcakes, cookies and cream puffs
Tornado Potato: a cut potato on a stick, with topppings.
Spudrunners: gourmet potatoes any way you like them.
BACON MANia: anything and everything bacon
Ranchan Ramen: Asian cuisine and ramen... of course
Lokus to go: greek food on the go

Fathers Day!!! I am so grateful to be blessed with a wonderful father who I was able to Skype with yesterday (gotta love technology) and to have TWO great fathers-in-law also! I'm also grateful to be married to Justin who will no doubt make a great father one day!

Happy Late Fathers day to all of the dads out there! I'll be sure to keep updating our adventures here

Road Trip Adventures

Here is our road trip in pictures, of course not everything happened at the exact time shown but within the hour. We had a good day overall and made WAY better time then we thought. The pictures aren't the greatest but they look good enough for being taken from a moving car.

Our last time being in our apartment, it was definitely a great first place!

The middle of nowhere...

Justin drove most of the way to California. Look at his hat.... he put it to the side to that he didn't have so much sun on his neck.

Time for a delicious cookie break.

I missed the welcome to arizona sign, but got the nevada one.

We ate chicken salad sandwiches and pasta salad at a gas station in Mesquite, where we noticed the time change.

I go for another nap before we switch drivers.

Vegas, not nearly as exciting for us as it is for most people.

I take turns driving while Justin takes a nap.

Justin starts his new book, 7 habits of highly effective people.

Switching drivers again at a super run-down gas staion, look at the price of gas! regular is 4.69 yikes!

We made it! to Justin's family's house!

Dinner time! to celebrate justin's birthday we went to eat at Red Robin, one of his favorite places to eat out.

Everything but the Kitchen Sink

After spending two whole days packing and cleaning our apartment we were ready to be finished. But first we had to get all of our stuff to the storage unit. It doesn't make sense for us to take all our stuff just to bring it back here again. Luckily we had some wonderful people to help us which made the move go by quickly.
this is all going into storage...

This is coming to California.

Justin's dad Kim brought his trailer which made it so we only had to make one trip!

Brian Coates really likes jumping into the Lovesac.

Justin and I with all of our moving buddies, Marty &Wendy Abbott,
Brian Coates, and Justin's dad Kim Hugie

To thank them for their efforts we provided pizza, and sent them home with a delicious plate of cookies!

Our bed for the night... comfy right? Well we are off to bed so we can be rested for our big road trip tomorrow!

Birthday Bash Part 2

On Tuesday which was actually Justin's birthday we were able to spend time with Glen & Breanna Gray who were visiting from California. Next we met Kim and Kathy Hugie (justin's dad and step-mom) For dinner in Park City. We ate at Hapa Grill, It's a hip Asian restaurant complete with sushi.
Justin ordered the California roll, his favorite sushi.

Justin eating the delicious chocolate bread pudding a la mode for his birthday dessert.

After dinner and dessert we walked over to Jupiter Bowl for 3 dollar an hour pool.

Kim likes smack talking while we play.

Justin gets pretty intense trying to get the perfect shot.

I make funny faces while I concentrate.

Kathy doing a trick shot, and yes she made it in!

The Boys

While we played pool the boys watched the Mavericks vs. Heat game 4. We ended our game just before the end of the fourth quarter, I was lucky enough to capture Justin's reaction to one of the last shots by the Mavericks. It was a very fun night and a good way to celebrate Justin's birthday!

Happy Birthday Justin!

Today is Justin's Birthday! On Saturday I planned a pre-birthday bash complete with homemade pizza and a cake. I made a pumpkin chocolate chip cake per Justin's request and it tasted delicious! and super simple to make. Then I decorated it to look like a golf course, I used cream cheese frosting tinted blue and green, green sugar for the fairway, gumballs for the golf balls, and crushed ghram crackers for sand. For the golf bad and clubs I used marshmallows dipped in chocolate, mini oreos for the wheels, and the clubs are white chocolate with silver luster dust.

MMMMMM... homemade pizza, my family's specialty

We started setting up the game "Scene it?" but decided that we would rather play apples to apples.

Kim (Justin's dad) Kayden (Justin niece) and Shea (or tayla... Justin's step-sister)

Justin and his cousin Michaela

Everybody wanted to taste the golf clubs and golf bag

Justin really like the golf bag and the cake.

Everyone loved the lovesac, even Tisha (justin's step-sister) and Kayden

Kids and adults alike love jumping into the lovesac!

For Justin's birthday he got a hybrid golf club (no it doesn't run on electricity) :) and some new soccer cleats for when we play Ultimate Frisbee, or he plays soccer.

Antelope Island

Today Justin and I both had the day off and didn't want to sit around all day doing nothing. We decided to check out a place called Antelope Island in the middle of the Great Salt Lake. It took about 30 mins to get there and we weren't sure what we were going to do once we arrived. We packed a picnic lunch and ate it in the car since it was pretty windy.

Before we even went into the visitors center we saw four antelope, aren't the babies cute?
After Lunch we walked down to the edge of the water, It's pretty shallow until about 20+ feet out there. Did you know the ocean is about 3% salt, but some parts of the Great Salt lake can be up to 28% salt.

Our next animal enounter was a buffalo. Justin really wanted to get a closer look at him so we parked the car, got out and started walking... (we left the car running just to be safe) but we were stopped by a really marshy area although I'm not sure I wanted to get much closer anyway.
There are lots of trails on the island, most of which were significantly longer than this one. We decided that this one was short enough and it was easy-moderate rating. The only problem we found were the biting gnats... Yuck! luckily when the wind picked up they left you alone.
We found a lizard on our way to the top.

Justin and I even tried out the self-timer on our camera...
needless to say we might still need some practice.

Take 4, fourth time was definitely the charm for us, and justin found an even better spot for us to sit.
The view at the top was absolutely beautiful! it really makes you appreciate the Great Salt Lake as well as the mountains in the backround.
As we were just about to head home we saw this massive buffalo just munching on the side of the road. He didn't even look up as we drove by. All in all we were pleasently surprised by the scenery and the wildlife here on antelope island, It was a great way to spend the day.
