Cake-Smashing Sneak Peek!

JJ had a party to celebrate his first birthday with Justin's family yesterday. I am so grateful for such loving families and am glad they could come celebrate with us. I couldn't help but share a little sneak peek (and one of my favorite pictures) from his first cake-smashing experience!

Happy Friday!

Happy 1st Birthday Little Man

It's hard to believe my firstborn is turning one already. If you would have asked me when we got married I wouldn't have guessed we would be enjoying our first little rough and tumble boy already but I love it! JJ is so much fun! And we couldn't have asked for a better start to our family. It's been 12 wonderful months, trust me it's not all sunshine and rainbows here but it's worth it!

Here's a few JJ stats at the 1 year mark:

Loves to eat: just about anything...there isn't anything he doesn't like yet. Favorites are tomatoes, avocados, homemade French fries, bananas and grapes.

Says: ball, banana, more, mama, dada, DON'T, bottle, "all done".... I know it sounds like a lot but he doesn't say all of them all of the time. Ball is definitely his favorite and the easiest to understand. A few months ago he stopped signing for more and is opting for the word now, although he signs "all done"still.

Favorite toys: yep you guessed it BALL! (He is his fathers son, as soon as he walks you better believe Justin will have him dunking) he also likes playing with measuring cups, cars, play food, and books.

JJ finally started sleeping through the night at 10 1/2 months (which felt like forever!) along with his switch to formula.

He LOVES to take a bath and splash all over the place.

He LOVES his orange blanket ( a random blanket from sue and Leonard that we decided would be good since it was warm, and he got attached to it and loves getting into his crib so he can snuggle up with it)

He has 8 teeth now, 4 on the top and 4 on the bottom.

He is walking some here and there, somewhere between 6-8 feet is his record so far,I think. he hasn't quite decided that walking is more efficient than crawling.

He's growing well despite a handful of ear infections, cold and the stomach flu, although he is healthy now and we just want to keep it that way!

I just adore this squish able little face and the rest of his chunky self! And am so grateful to have him in our family! I can't wait for some cake-smashing fun!

It's MARCH!!!

It's March! and it is going to be a busy month in the Hugie house. With Justin's mom, my family, the Irvings, and GG and papa all coming to visit (not all at the same time) Celebrating JJ's Birthday, Easter, and my Mom's, 2 brothers and Dad all celebrating birthdays, we are in for quite a whirlwind!

Yes my Little man is turning ONE! woah... time flies. It has been so much fun to watch him grow up and learn lots.

From this little cone-headed baby boy...

to our Crazy, get into lots, lovable little man!

I am also continuing my "Hugie Happiness Project" my goals for this month are:

Plan ahead for birthdays-parties
Tackle Nagging Tasks (laundry, batteries for camera, baby proofing, decorations)
1 No TV day a week (I could get a lot more done!)
Disconnect from the Internet (quit checking facebook and pinterest ALL the time)
Meal Planning/Prep ahead

February Recap- I got one project in each week although I wasn't as diligent at blogging about them. Thinking about "Do-it-yourself-er-ing" once a week got me motivated to make time to be creative even if life is crazy and it takes a whole month of morning naps to complete. I have been living by the "one minute rule" and am trying to keep that going from January to keep me more productive.

DIY February: Valentine Postcard

I know it's not february anymore but I  have some blogging to catch up on from my DIY adventures this past month and I new you needed some cuteness to finish off your week!

In February I did a little photo shoot with some red lipstick and JJ to make Valentine Postcards for our family. The pictures turned out completely darling!

For your postcards you will need:

Cereal Boxes
Modge Podge
Adorable Picture
Scissors
Straight-edge cutter
Corner rounder (optional)
A pen

Before you start you will need to find some cereal boxes, preferably empty but if not you will have some box-less cereal in your cabinets. I got 4 postcards out of each cereal box.

Next cut open your box and cut off the extra flaps.

Place your adorable picture on the outside of the cereal box using modge podge, and put an extra coat on top to seal everything in.

Once the modge podge is dry use a straight edge cutter to trim away the excess cardboard.

You might still be able to see just a touch of the cereal box, but don't worry it adds character!

This is the back of your postcard and the inside of the cereal box.

In order to make it like a real postcard, draw a line down the middle and 3 lines on the right hand side for the address. I suppose I should have put my return address but I totally forgot.

Then address your postcard, write your message on the right hand side, put a stamp on it and mail it! My family loved getting a little piece of JJ in the mail. I would love to do this again especially since it was so easy! and cute!!

If you like you can round the corners to finish it off, which I forgot to take a picture of. It does however take quite a bit of force to punch through the cereal box, picture and the modge podge layers. I also skipped taking a picture of the finished product since I was so excited to get them in the mail.
